WELCOME TO SOUTHERN SEVEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT
  • Mission Statement:
    "To promote a safe and healthy environment by providing preventive health care, family support services, and child development programs."

Public Health has had a presence in southernmost Illinois for over 50 years. Minutes from meetings which are on file at our administrative office indicate that as far back as the early 1930's, personnel from the State of Illinois were working with local communities to provide the basic public health services we often take for granted such as safe drinking water, controlling communicable diseases (in those days it was tuberculosis and polio), and helping women have healthy babies. When we are doing our job, it's easy to forget why public health is so important, but next time you drink a glass of water or eat in a restaurant, remember how our job is protecting your health.

The seven counties served by Southern Seven Health Department, including Alexander, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski,  and Union, cover 2003 square miles, which is slightly larger than the state of Delaware. We cover more geographic area than any other health department in the State of Illinois. Job Openings:

Program Assistant – Partial-year, part-time opening at the Cairo Head Start Center located in Cairo, IL.  Must be 18 years of age or older and have a High School Diploma or GED.  Duties include assisting the Head Start Teacher with classroom maintenance, nurturing of children, care of children and other issues that involve the classroom or where needed.  DCFS Background/Criminal Check required.

Bus Driver – Partial-year, part-time opening at the Vienna Early Learning Center located in Vienna, IL.  Minimum qualifications are: CDL with Bus Permit and must be at least 21 years of age.  Duties include being responsible for the safety of children ages 3-5 while transporting them to and from school.  DCFS Background/Criminal Check required.

Custodian – Partial-year, full-time opening at the Cairo Head Start Center located in Cairo, IL.  Prefer someone with a High School diploma or GED with two (2) years of experience related to janitorial/custodial work.  Job duties include ensuring that the facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, neat and orderly state.  DCFS Background/Criminal Check required.

Sub Bus Driver - Locations: Potentially needed at our Union County and Johnson County Early Learning Centers
Qualifications: CDL License and must be at least 21 years of age. Duties include being responsible for the safety of children ages 3-5 while transporting them to and from school.  DCFS Background/Criminal Check required.

RN or LPN (PH) – Regular, full-time opening at the Pulaski County Public Health Clinic located in Ullin, IL. Applicant must possess an Illinois RN or LPN License.  Primary duties include: family planning, STD screenings, HIV counseling & testing, chronic disease screenings, immunizations, lead poisoning prevention outreach activities. Background/Criminal check required. 

Registered Nurse (WIC) - Regular, full-time opening at the Massac County Public Health Clinic located in Metropolis, IL. Applicant must possess an Illinois RN License.  Primary duties include core case management activities of assessment, planning, referral, advocacy and follow-up.  Interact with other health department programs in order to coordinate care for prenatals, infants and children; nutritional assessment and counseling of pregnant women, infants and children within WIC guidelines; group education for workshops and assignment of food packages for clients.  Perform Public Health nurse duties as required. Background/Criminal check required.
